Are You Too Focused on Money in Your MLM Business?

Posted on January 16, 2012 by darrenolander

You started your MLM business to make money, which is one of the main motivations for anyone starting a commercial enterprise. If you are too focused on this aspect of your business, though, you will find it challenging to make it an ongoing success. Instead of focusing on revenue, a better approach is to give your attention to ways you can create value for the people you are dealing with.

If you focus too much on what you are getting from your business (money), you are missing out on the opportunity to develop good, long-term relationships with your prospects and the customers you are serving. These relationships are the key to success.

Customers and prospects are more likely to buy from you or sign up for your program if you have taken the time to develop a good relationship. Take the time to get to know them and find out how you can best meet their needs. Once you create an atmosphere of mutual trust, you will find it much easier to do business with that person.

It can be tempting to keep your eyes on the benefit you are looking to achieve from interacting with others when you are trying to build your business. After all, without sufficient revenue you aren’t going to be able to build a sustainable enterprise. The flip side to that argument is that without a steady stream of customers feeding your revenue stream, you aren’t going to generate the income you need.

When you are in business, you simply can’t afford to let your customer base get away from you. People who have had a negative experience with any business, including a MLM one, are more likely to share their version of what happened with others, both on and offline.

If someone posts something that is less than flattering about you or your business on a blog post, or a social networking site like Facebook or Twitter, readers aren’t going to stop to consider whether the post is accurate or not. More than likely, a certain percentage of them will simply pass it along. Once your MLM business has developed a negative reputation, it’s very difficult to turn it around.

Giving good value and treating others well may seem a bit old fashioned but these simple values never go out of style. When you offer the people you are doing business with something extra, you are well on your way to creating a positive and beneficial relationship with them. Provide a free report or an e-mail course to people who sign up for your mailing list to make this prospect more appealing for you.

Changing your focus away from money in your MLM business may seem like the wrong way to go to achieve success, but this is a strategy that can work well for you. Think of what you want to achieve over the long term and focus on developing good relationships and the money will take care of itself.
