How to Maintain Drive When You Feel Like Giving Up

Making money online can be a long drawn out process. Even with the best of intentions, you may end up waiting weeks or months before you see a profit, affiliate commissions or sales. Before you throw in the towel, understand that this is par for the course! It takes time to build a reputation so you can have a big launch. It also takes time to build traffic to a brand new site so you can convert that traffic into sales.

What makes the difference in whether or not someone succeeds in Internet marketing is whether they can stick through those “slow times” or they give up when the going gets tough. If you want to make any headway in this business, you’ve got to make a decision now that you’re going to stick with it. Here are some strategies to help you keep going so you can see your goals through to the end.

1. Have a strong goal to begin with

You’re more likely to stick with things in the long run if you have a strong goal in mind to begin with. If you just have a goal of making a lot of money that won’t be clear enough to keep you motivated. You need to get specific about your goal. How much you want to earn each month? What are you going to do when you are earning that much each month? Having a clear picture of the end goal in terms of the financial amount and what you plan on doing with that money will create enough desire in your mind so that you’ll stick with it.

2. Understand that success is a process

Often times people have a goal and are starting something new they will have a false expectation that things are going to happen quickly. In some cases they may expect there to be the changes in a short period of time. This is especially true when it comes to making money online. If you go into it understanding the success is a process, and not a get rich quick scheme, you’ll be more likely to see the slow periods as what they are. They are simply the waiting period that you need to get through in order to see success on the other side.

3. Increase your efforts

If you’re not happy with your current level of success in Internet marketing, it may be time to step your game. During the slow periods you can focus on increasing your efforts so that success will come more quickly. For example, you can create more articles for distribution, you can create press release or you can connect with other bloggers in your niche in order to write a guest post. The point is you don’t have to sit around and wait for success. You can spend more energy and get quicker results.

With these adjustments to your attitude and your actions, you’ll be able to stick with it no matter what. This will put you head and shoulders above most people who try to make money online and end up giving up after the first sign that they won’t be an instant success.

  • You hit the nail right on the head with this post Darren. There are so many times that people fall for the provocative, hyped up sales letters without doing any research or checking to see if any real sales can be made.

This journey into internet marketing and making money online should be viewed as a regular business that you would start up right in town. You have to get everything together including your marketing and let the process begin. It won't happen overnight either so don't expect your internet business to either.

Like you say Darren, the people that can survive the slow times are the winners here.

  • Thank you Darren, very good post. I go with Tom – too many hyped up promises out there. Though hard for a newbie to see behind the smoke screen. A high attrition rate is the price for such hyped up marketing. Better to tell people from beginning that the process will take time and provide them with proper guidance – as you do.The guys out there who shout louder and pitch unrealistic dreams just spoil everybody else's business, mood and motivation.
